asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he has studied the statement of the dialysis and transplant nursing forum, a copy of which has been sent to him, about the adequacy of the equipment and staffing levels in renal dialysis and transplant units; and if he will make a statement.

We are not aware of any document answering the precise description given by the hon. Member. A working party of the forum produced a report in 1979 on the grading and pattern of staff employed in renal units, which I understand was circulated to the units through the forum's membership. There is no detailed discussion of equipment in this report. The equipment and staffing levels in renal dialysis and transplant units are a matter for health authorities to decide.
