HC Deb 19 March 1984 vol 56 c333W
32. Mr. Wareing

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what specific proposals he will bring forward to ensure that the disabled enjoy effective mobility on public transport within Greater London and the metropolitan counties.

Mrs. Chalker

I have given a clear undertaking that the London Regional Transport Authority will be required to develop its vehicles and infrastructure with the needs of disabled people fully in mind—as far as technology and finance will allow.

For the metropolitan counties, the Government have proposed that responsibility for the passenger transport executives should remain with passenger transport authorities composed of locally-elected members.
