§ Mr. Johnstonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make representations to the Soviet authorities about the extended sentence of Mr. Valery Senderov and press for his release.
§ Mr. RifkindMr. Senderov's case has been brought to my attention in correspondence by a number of hon. Members. As my right hon. Friend told the House on 24 January, he raised the question of human rights with Mr. Gromyko in Stockholm on 19 January. We shall continue to take suitable opportunities to remind the Soviet Union of its human rights commitments under the Helsinki final act and the madrid concluding document, which will include drawing the attention to individual cases.
