§ Mr. Winnick
asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he intends to raise the extradition or expulsion from Chile of the Nazi war criminal, Rauff, at the next meeting of the European Community Council of Ministers; and if he will make a statement.

§ Mr. Whitney
This is primarily a matter for the Federal German authorities, which have responsibility for bringing war criminals such as Rauff to justice. If they should propose that his case be discussed among the Ten we could agree.

§ Mr. Winnick
asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he intends meeting the United States ambassador over seeking the assistance of the United States of America in securing the extradition or expulsion from Chile of the Nazi war criminal, Rauff.

§ Mr. Whitney
We have consulted closely with the Americans on a number of cases of suspected Nazi war criminals including, currently, Rauff. I see no need for a separate meeting with the American ambassador.

§ Mr. Winnick
asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he intends meeting the Chilean ambassador over Her Majesty's Government's position over the extradition and expulsion from Chile of the Nazi war criminal, Rauff.

§ Mr. Whitney
I made clear to the Chilean ambassador today our support for Federal German and American requests for Rauff to be expelled from Chile and repatriated to Germany to stand trial for the crimes of which he is accused.
