HC Deb 06 March 1984 vol 55 c540W
Mr. John Fraser

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will propose amendments to the law to enable the opening of bars for the sale of alcoholic liquor at airports near London to take place outside normal licensing hours.

Mr. Mellor

We have at present no plans for legislation to amend the Licensing Act 1964 to permit bars on the landside of airport passenger buildings to open outside the normal permitted hours. Section 87 of the Act empowers the Secretary of State for Transport to designate by order those airports which appear to him to be ones at which there is a substantial amount of international passenger traffic and this allows licensed premises on the airside of airports so designated unrestricted opening hours. I understand that the three London airports and Luton have been designated.
