HC Deb 05 March 1984 vol 55 cc400-1W
Mr. Barnett

asked the Prime Minister, pursuant to her answer of 15 February, Official Report, c. 193, to the hon. Member for Greenwich concerning the letter dated 7 September 1983 sent to her by Beryl Hibbs, the clerk to Meeting for Sufferings of the Society of Friends, and in view of the fact that the Inland Revenue has replied to say that it is not competent to answer her question about whether individuals should have a right to withhold tax on grounds of conscience, if she will reply personally to the clerk.

The Prime Minister

The letter sent by the Inland Revenue to the clerk to the Meeting for Sufferings of the Society of Friends on 23 December contained a response to the point raised by the hon. Member. Its subsequent letter of 15 February repeated that explanation. In these circumstances I see no need for a further reply.
