§ Sir John Biggs-Davisonasked the Prime Minister how many Departments of State and Government agencies are concerned with the defence and development of the Falkland Islands and their dependencies; and if she is satisfied with the co-ordination between them.
§ The Prime MinisterI am satisfied with the arrangements, which were established immediately after the cessation of hostilities, to ensure full exchange of information on, and co-ordination of, the work of the various Government Departments and agencies concerned with the defence and development of the Falkland Islands and the Falkland Islands Dependencies. Those most directly involved are the Minister of Defence, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Overseas Development Administration, the Crown Agents, the Property Services Agency and the Treasury.
§ Mr. Dalyellasked the Prime Minister whether it is still her policy to allow the Falkland Islanders a referendum on their future.
§ The Prime MinisterWe remain determined to take full account of the wishes of the Falkland Islanders. We are kept aware of these through the islanders' elected representatives. We believe that this is the best procedure.
