HC Deb 21 June 1984 vol 62 c225W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science where research into lung diseases affecting coal and china clay miners, asbestosis and cancer-related fibres will be carried out if the pneutnoconiosis unit in Cardiff is closed.

Mr. Brooke

I refer the hon. Member to my written answer on 11 June at column373 to the hon. Member for Caernarfon (Mr. Wigley). The Medical Research Council, in reaching its decision on the future of the pneumoconiosis unit, will have regard to national needs for research into occupational lung diseases and to the availability of other places where such needs might be met.
