HL Deb 11 June 1984 vol 452 c987WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they accept the view that 6 per cent. of the notified SSSI area in Kent were lost or radically altered in the period 1968–79 and if so when, according to their calculations, will there be no such areas left in Kent.

Lord Skelmersdale

I am advised by NCC that 6.1 per cent. of SSSIs notified in 1968 were lost or radically altered by 1979. The Wildlife and Countryside Act has introduced more effective procedures for the protection of SSSIs and therefore I do not accept that the loss or damage will continue as envisaged in the Question.
