HL Deb 11 June 1984 vol 452 cc987-8WA
Lord Melchett

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will list for each region in Scotland, how many sites of special scientific interest the Nature Conservancy Council have renotified and what percentage of the overall total this represents; and how many new sites have been notified and what percentage of the total proposed new sites this represents?

Lord Skelmersdale

I am advised by the Nature Conservancy Council that the number of SSSIs renotified and of new sites notified in each region of Scotland at 1st May 1984 was as follows:

NCC Region Renotified Sites New Sites
South West 45 41
South East 60 77
North West 63 nil
North East 39 13

The renotifications represent 23 per cent. of the Scottish sites in that category; the new site notifications represent 25 per cent. of the proposed new sites in Scotland.
