§ Mr. McCrindleasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is satisfied with the existing system of regulation of drug companies' advertisements; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeThe advertising of medicines is subject to regulations made under the Medicines Act 1968. The control of advertisements is secured by a combination of monitoring and enforcement action by the Department, and self-regulation by the pharmaceutical industry. We are keeping the effectiveness of these arrangements under review. At present they are working satisfactorily.
