HC Deb 04 June 1984 vol 61 c17W
Mr. Steel

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, in view of the uncertainty and in some cases hardship caused to recipients of Colonial Service pensions by the strike at the Crown Agents Office at East Kilbride, what action he intends to take to ensure the payment of those pensions.

Mr. Raison

I very much regret this industrial action and the difficulties to which it has given rise. Pensioners have been informed of the position. A number of the Crown Agents staff concerned are continuing to work and are endeavouring to maintain a basic service in circumstances which I recognise are difficult for them. Cases of hardship are being processed to the extent practicable. I am concerned that the industrial action should be brought to an end. Possible solutions are under consideration and I have had consultations with the chairman of the Crown Agents and with representatives of the trade unions.
