§ Mr. Peter Bruinvelsasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will speed up the construction and completion of the remaining stages of the M25; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. ChalkerWe are already going as fast as possible. Only one 13 mile stretch of this 122 mile road needs to have construction work started on it, and that will happen during the course of this year. We aim to have the whole motorway completed in 1986.
§ Mr. Peter Bruinvelsasked the Secretary of State for Transport how the actual traffic loads on the opened section of the M25 compare with the projected traffic loads.
§ Mrs. ChalkerThe information requested is as follows:
Section of M25 Vehicles per 16 hour day(Thousands) From To Actual *Forecast A225 A2 . 55–75 A2 M20 †28 55–70 M20 A21 (Badgers Mount) — 50–60 A21 M26/A21 (Sevenoaks) — 50–60 M26/A21 A22 43 50–60 A22 M23 48 50–65 M23 A217 †35 50–60 A217 A243 — 40–50 A243 A3 — 45–55 A3 A320 25 55–75 A320 M3 †26 65–80 M3 A30 †24 60–75 A30 Airport Spur 41 70–80 Airport Spur M4 M4 M40 — 60–65 M40 A412 — 55–60 A412 A404 . 55–65 A404 A405 42 65–75 A405 A41 42 45–55 A41 M1 — 45–50 M1 A6 — 30–35 A6 A1(M) — 40–50 A1(M) A111 27 50–55 A111 A10 . 40–45 A10 A121 — 45–50 A121 M11 — 50–60 M11 A12 . 50–60 A12 A 127 . 35–40 A 127 A13 37 35–40 Al3 A225 (Dartford Tunnel) 44 50–60 * The forecast flows are for 1987, which is the expected first full calendar year of operation of the complete M25. Our aim is, of course, that the road should be fully completed sometime in 1986. † These figures will have been increased as a result of the opening of adjacent sections. For example, the recent opening of the A3 to A320 (Chertsey-Wisley) section will have increased traffic levels on A320 to M3. Also the figures for actual traffic flows do not take into account the effect of yesterday's opening of the section between A10 and M11. No traffic count is available where the symbol appears.
§ Mr. Peter Bruinvelsasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will estimate the actual and projected night-time traffic accidents on the M25 now and when completely opened.
§ Mrs. ChalkerI shall answer this question shortly.
