Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the named destination of the dolphins imported under a licence from his Department on 21 December 1983.

The named destination was Flamingo Land, Kirby Misperton, near Malton, North Yorkshire.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if any licences have been issued to import animals covered by the Endangered Species Act for commercial reasons.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what resources his Department has available to ensure that the conditions and purposes laid down for the issue of licences under the Endangered Species Act are fulfilled; and how such monitoring is carried Out.

Mr. Waldegrave

Officials of my Department and of HM Customs and Excise undertake work to ensure that the conditions of licences are fulfilled. The Department makes use of a team of wildlife inspectors for some aspects of enforcement work and also appoints specialist inspectors to report on the accommodation provided for certain live animals.
