HC Deb 02 February 1984 vol 53 c323W
31. Mr. Latham

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the latest position regarding the European Community's agricultural prices negotiations.

33. Sir Peter Mills

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the recently announced Commission's price proposal for the coming marketing year; and if he will make a statement.

40. Sir Kenneth Lewis

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what progress has been made in getting agreement with the United Kingdom's partners in Europe on reform of the common agricultural policy.

Mr. Jopling

I shall place particular emphasis on the need for severe restraint on common prices in this year's price fixing discussions. The Government are still considering their detailed position on the many proposals the Commission has put forward.

34. Mr. Spence

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will study the effect on the costs for British agriculture of the higher prices charged for agricultural machinery compared with identical machinery sold in other European Economic Community countries; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Fenner

In the case of agricultural machinery a comparison of list prices in British and other European markets does not necessarily give a true indication of prices actually paid. When all relevant factors are taken into account, prices in the United Kingdom are broadly in line with those elsewhere in the European Community.
