HC Deb 01 August 1984 vol 65 c363W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many embryos are currently in deep freeze storage in the United Kingdom; and what code of practice or regulations exist concerning embryo freezing.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

We do not hold information centrally about the storage of frozen embryos. The report of the committee of inquiry into human fertilisation and embryology contains a number of relevant recommendations. The Medical Research Council, the British Medical Association and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists have issued codes of practice to guide those undertaking in vitro fertilisation and related procedures.
