asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how recently statistics on the prevalence of infertility in men and women have been compiled.

No official statistics are compiled on the prevalence of infertility.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services which health authorities have specialist infertility clinics.

I assume the right hon. Member is referring to clinics which offer in vitro fertilisation. I understand that the following health authorities operate such clinics: Bristol and Weston health authority; Camberwell health authority; central Manchester health authority; City and Hackney health authority; Hammersmith and Queen Charlotte's hospitals special health authority; Hampstead health authority; and Southmead health authority.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what are the minimum, average and maximum waiting times for National Health Service appointments with infertility specialists;

(2) how many women (a) are on waiting lists for in vitro fertilisation treatment and (b) have been turned down for such treatment.
