HC Deb 13 April 1984 vol 58 c456W
Mr. Hume

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) what are the current provisions for the supply of electricity on Rathlin island; and whether he considers these to be satisfactory;

(2) what plans he has to link Rathlin island into the main electricity grid.

Mr. Butler

Electricity supply on Rathlin island is currently provided by a number of individual private generators. There is no public mains supply on the island. Because of the lack of satisfaction with existing arrangements I have sought the views of the Northern Ireland Electricity Service on the possibilities of providing a mains supply on the island, and these are currently under consideration.
