§ Mr. Rostasked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will provide a quantitative comparison of funding and financial support for energy conservation per capita for each of the EEC member states in 1982 and 1983.
§ Mr. Buchanan-SmithEEC document 5566/84, entitled "Comparison of Energy Saving Programme of EC Member States", deposited in the Library on 23 March 1984, contains a comparison of financial support on a per capita basis for each member state in 1982. No comparable information is yet available for 1983.
§ Mr. Rostasked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will outline the publicity, promotion and financial support which his Department provides to local authorities to encourage investment in cost-effective schemes which will convert refuse into useful energy.
§ Mr. Buchanan-SmithWe are encouraging the recycling of waste as a fuel throughout the economy by providing support under the energy conservation demonstration projects Scheme. To date 23 projects have been approved at a cost to the Energy Efficiency Office of £3.4 million. Half of this support involves the use of local authority refuse either by local authorities themselves or by other organisations.
