§ Mr. Rostasked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will report progress on implementing the EEC directives 224W for energy labelling of domestic applicances in each o f the member states; and when he expects to introduce a scheme which will help the consumer to become better informed about the energy consumption of major appliances.
§ Mr. Buchanan-SmithThe EEC has published two directives, a framework directive and an implementing directive for electric ovens. Work to implement this directive in the United Kingdom is in progress.
The European Commission has produced a report, EEC document 5566/84, which gives details of energy conservation measures, including progress made in implementing the EEC directive on the energy labelling of electric ovens in all member states. A copy was deposited in the House on 23 March 1984.
The Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Electrical Appliances has informed me that it intends to introduce a voluntary scheme for providing information on the energy efficiency of domestic electrical appliances progressively during 1984.
