HC Deb 10 April 1984 vol 58 cc190-1W
Mr. Robert C. Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if, in the light of the serious escalation of the Gulf war, especially of Iraq's use of chemical weapons, and the use by Iran of children to spearhead the crossing of minefields in advance of trained soldiers, he will use every endeavour to ensure that both countries cease this conduct and bring to an end this war.

Mr. Luce

We deplore the latest fighting in the Iran-Iraq conflict and will continue to support any realistic mediation attempts. The United Kingdom whole-heartedly endorsed the declaration by the Security Council of 30 March which condemned the use of chemical weapons in the war and called on both sides to observe the rules and principles and humanitarian law applicable to armed conflict.
