§ Sir George YoungOver 5,000 shorthold tenancies were created in 1981, the first year after enactment, and the only year for which figures are available. Information about shortholds created since 1 December 1981 is not available because the compulsory rent registration requirement for new shortholds was lifted outside London on that date.
