§ 36. Mr. Cartwrightasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the progress made by the local government audit commission.
§ Mr. WaldegraveNo. The commission is an independent body responsible for the conduct of its own day-to-day affairs and financed by fees paid by local authorities, fixed after statutory consultation with the local authority associations and accountancy bodies. As required under the Local Government Finance Act 1982, the commission will be publishing an annual report on the discharge of its functions, which will be laid before Parliament.
