§ 37. Mr. Lofthouseasked the Secretary of State for the Environment by how much housing investment programme allocations have been reduced in real terms since 1978–79.
§ Mr. GowGross provision for housing investment by local authorities fell by 42 per cent. in cost terms between 1978–79 and 1983–84. Gross provision for all housing investment, including by local authorities, new towns and the Housing Corporation, was reduced by 38.5 per cent. over the same period. These figures need to be seen in the context of a strong growth in owner-occupation during the period with the private sector meeting a greater proportion of housing needs.
