HC Deb 09 March 1983 vol 38 c438W
Mr. Pitt

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what progress has been made over the last year in securing compensation for British citizens who have had property confiscated or bank accounts frozen by the German Democratic Republic; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Rifkind

Negotiations with the Government of the German Democratic Republic on British claims continue, with the most recent round of discussions having taken place in October 1982. While considerable progress has been made at these talks there are still outstanding issues to which we are trying to find solutions acceptable to both sides. Further talks are expected to be held in about May of this year.
