Friend is content that assistance for fishermen's co-operatives should continue to be available primarily from the Sea Fish Industry Authority under section 3(1)(f) of the Fisheries Act 1981. There is no intention to amend the Act to provide for direct Government financial assistance to fishermen's co-operatives.
