HC Deb 21 February 1983 vol 37 c307W
25. Mr. David Atkinson

asked the Minister for Trade when he plans to complete his review of the tourist industry.

Mr. Sproat

With the exception of a few organisations, I completed my consultations before Christmas and I am now considering the large amount of evidence submitted. I hope to be in a position to announce my conclusions to the House before Easter.

31. Mr. McCrindle

asked the Minister for Trade if he has yet completed his review of the structure of the tourist industry with particular reference to the roles of the English Tourist Board and the British Tourist Authority.

Mr. Sproat

No. I am considering a wide range of views and hope to be in a position to announce my conclusions by Easter.

34. Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

asked the Minister for Trade whether he will do more to encourage tourism in areas of high unemployment.

Mr. Sproat

The Government's aim is to encourage tourism in any part of the country where good prospects exist. It was for this reason that the tourism grant scheme was extended in August 1982 to the whole country.
