§ Mr. McMahonasked the Secretary of State for Transport what methods are used to guard against unauthorised offering for sale of vehicle tax discs; what information he has as to the extent of such misuse; and if he will estimate the tax loss involved.
§ Mrs. ChalkerA series of strict safeguards exists at every stage from the printing of the licences to their issue. Those not issued are destroyed. For security reasons, these are not published. Any recent misuse appears to be of a very limited nature.
My Department is however currently co-operating with the Police and the Post Office in an investigation of the possible theft, alteration and illegal resale of licence discs in the Glasgow area.
