§ Mr. WaldegraveSince the main rates of student grant for the academic year 1982–83 were announced on 2 December 1981, my right hon. Friend has received more than 1,000 representations from hon. Members, interested bodies, individual students and members of the public about the level of student grants. A substantial number of these also mentioned the discretionary nature of many student grants.
