§ Mr. WhitelawA full statement on the background, circumstances and action subsequently taken is being published today, together with the report on the incident prepared by Mr. Gibson. l am grateful for his careful analysis of what took place. It is clear that mistakes were made in the handling of the incident and subsequently: hut the Director General has taken action to ensure that the lessons which have been learnt are applied at Wormwood Scrubs and throughout the prison service.
