HL Deb 02 August 1982 vol 434 c661WA
Lord Brockway

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in view of the adoption by the United States House of Representatives of an amendment rejecting President Reagan's plan to resume production of nerve gas, and calling for an international treaty to prohibit the production, development and stockpiling of chemical weapons, they will seek to accelerate the negotiations to this end proposed at the United Nations Special Session on Disarmament.

Lord Belstead

The Government have continuously sought progress on a convention which bans chemical weapons and provides for adequate verification. We are playing an active part in the meetings of the working group of the Committee on Disarmament engaged in this task.
