§ Mr. Marlow asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will institute a study into the trend of road accidents in countries which have adopted compulsory seat belt legislation subsequent to that legislation.
§ Mr. David Howell:We have already studied seat belt wearing experience in other countries. I do not think that further studies would take us much beyond what my right hon. Friend said in the House on 28 July.—[Vol. 9 Cols. 1048–49]. I believe that it will be better to concentrate our resources on ensuring that experience of seat belt wearing in this country is effectively monitored.
