HC Deb 22 October 1981 vol 10 cc163-4W
Mr. Haselhurst

asked the Secretary of State for Trade (1) if he will publish in the Official Report an up-to-date costing of the proposed development of Stansted airport, indicating the sources of the funding;

(2) whether the reply given to the hon. Member for Saffron Walden on 17 December 1979 by his predecessor that no taxpayers' funds would be required for the first phase of the proposed development of Stansted airport in addition to the money that the British Airports Authority would generate from additional revenue arising from the new terminal still represents the position of Her Majesty's Government in the light of the latest information available to him; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Sproat:

My right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for the Environment and Trade have appointed an inspector to hold a public inquiry into the British Airports Authority's planning application to develop Stansted airport. The issues raised in these questions are now the subject of examination at that inquiry and it would not be appropriate for me to comment on such matters at this stage.
