HC Deb 22 October 1981 vol 10 cc191-2W

Mr. Nicholas Winterton asked the Secretary of State for Transport what representations he has received from the British Road Federation on the need for bypasses as part of the trunk or local road programmes.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke:

We receive frequent representations from the Federation urging the need for new roads including bypasses and the speedier provision of those already planned.

Since coming into office I believe we have been reasonably successful in responding to these pleas within the limits of what has been practicable in legal and engineering terms and within the resources that have been available for road building.
