Mr. Murphy asked the Secretary of State for Industry whether he intends to make any new appointments to the Post Office Board to replace those members who were recently appointed to the British Telecommunications Corporation.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin:

I have made the following appointments, effective from 1 October 1981, to the board of the Post Office Corporation: Chairman: Mr. R. E. Dearing, CB. Deputy Chairman: Mr. S. Wainwright.

I have also appointed the following new members: Members (full-time): Mr. R. A. Clinton, Mr. W. Cockburn, Mr. N. N. Walmsley. Members (part-time): Sir Clifford Cornford, KCB, Mr. P. E. Moody.

These new appointments also will be effective from 1 October 1981, the day appointed for the transfer of the telecommunications and data processing businesses of the Post Office to the new British Telecommunications Corporation.

In addition, I have extended the current term of office of Mr. C. E. Beauchamp, CBE, for a further two years and Mr. K. M. Young, CBE, Miss Cole and Mr. D. Gladwin, CBE, will continue to serve.

Pursuant to my hon. Friend's reply of 28 July—[c. 415-161]—I have also appointed Mr. Deryk Vander Weyer to be a part-time member of the British Telecommunications Corporation with effect from 1 October 1981.
