HC Deb 16 June 1981 vol 6 c337W
30. Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will now take steps to estimate the number of pupils entered for GCE O-level and CSE examinations who choose to leave at Easter, because of the new regulation about supplemenatry benefit rather than stay at school to take these examinations.

Mr. Mark Carlisle

The CSE examining boards have already been asked for returns relating to entry and attendance at the summer term examinations. These data should enable the Department to make an assessment of the effects of the regulations in the autumn. The Department believes that an accurate assessment can be made without seeking similar returns from the GCE examining boards.
