asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has received to the effect that students carrying out postgraduate research should be given the opportunity to combine such courses with training for the postgraduate certificate of education; and whether he will make a statement.

The only representation received was in a letter from the Royal Society of Chemistry in July 1980. I refer to my hon. Friend to the reply I gave on 15 June 1981.
