HC Deb 11 June 1981 vol 6 cc181-2W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department at which existing prisons there are building or repair projects estimated to cost £100,000 or more, giving in each case the estimated cost, the eventual increase or decrease in prison accommodation and facilities, and the dates of commencement and expected completion.

Mr. Mayhew

From 1981–82 to 1984–85, the last year covered by current public expenditure surveys, all existing establishments are expected to incur expenditure in excess of £100,000 on construction and repairs, which include labour, materials and payments to contractors, over these four years. Repairs are a continuing annual commitment. Estimates of completion dates for major projects are set out in appendix No. 8 to the report on the work of the prison department 1980—Cmnd. 8228. More detailed information could only be provided at disproportionate cost.
