asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what were the numbers of those engaged as full-time and part-time teachers, respectively, within the education system in 1960, 1970 and 1980, respectively.

Figures given below relate to teachers in maintained nursery, primary, secondary and special schools, and providing education otherwise than at school under section 56 of the Education Act, 1944. Further education lecturers are not included. The figures are not completely comparable throughout the period and include elements of estimation for earlier years.
