HC Deb 10 June 1981 vol 6 cc149-50W
Mr. Nicholas Baker

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what were the numbers of those engaged in administration within the education service in 1960, 1970 and 1980, respectively.

Mr. Mark Carlisle

Information is not available in exactly the form requested. The 1961 census of population indicated that there were about 53,000 administrative and clerical employees within all types of education in England and Wales. It is estimated on a similar basis that there were about 96,000 such employees in 1971. No other comparable information will be available until the results of the 1981 census of population becomes available.
