HC Deb 08 June 1981 vol 6 c23W
Mr. Jim Callaghan

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will introduce proposals to reduce unemployment among women.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The Government are concerned to do all they can to reduce unemployment among both men and women and consider that their policies for improving the competitive position of the economy provide the most effective means in the longer term of generating new employment opportunities. Efforts are being made for the shorter term through the employment and training services to widen the range of job opportunities open to women, paricularly in the more skilled and technical areas of work and industrial management where women are still very much in a minority.
