HC Deb 26 January 1981 vol 997 cc284-5W
Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will give details of the joint Welsh Office professional working group similar to the one set up in England in 1980 to deal with National Health Service planning and management in the context of health management units displacing the district based structure in Wales; what the medical representation will be on these new units; and who will be responsible for the appointment of medical members.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

I assume the hon. Member is referring to the Working Party on Medical Professional Advisory Machinery in Wales established by the chief medical officers; it comprised nominees of the Welsh General Medical Services Committee, the Welsh Committee for Hospital Medical Services, the Welsh Committee for Community Medical Services and the Welsh National School of Medicine under the chairmanship of a principal medical officer in the Welsh Office, Dr. W. C. D. Lovett. The working party has recently reported and its report is being circulated for comment. Decisions on its recommendations will be taken in the light of these consultations.
