Mr. Jim Callaghanasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many construction workers are at present unemployed (a) in the North-West region and (b) the United Kingdom: and what proportion these figures represent of the total work force in the North-West region and the United Kingdom as a whole.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonAt 13 November 1980, there were 38,605 people registered as unemployed in the North-West region who last worked in the construction industry. These represented 24.0 per cent. of all construction employees, enployed and unemployed, in the region. The corresponding figures for the United Kingdom were 294,538 and 20.1 per cent.
