HC Deb 28 October 1980 vol 991 cc229-30W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the regional aid per capita in the financial year 1979–80 for Scotland.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

It is estimated that expenditure per capita on all forms of regional preferential assistance to industry in Scotland in the financial year 1979–80 was £27.6. In addition to expenditure on the main forms of regional preferential assistance to industry—regional development grants, selective financial assistance under section 7 of the Industry Act 1972, and expenditure by the Scottish Development Agency on land and factory building—this estimate includes expenditure by the Highlands and Islands Development Board, expenditure on tourism under section 4 of the Development of Tourism Act 1969, and regionally preferential payments of the small firms employment subsidy. Expenditure per capita in Scotland on the main forms of regional preferential assistance only is estimated to have been £23.6 in 1979–80.
