HC Deb 28 October 1980 vol 991 c230W
Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps he is taking to ensure that, in so far as possible, those persons appointed to act as enumerators during the forthcoming census are drawn from the registered unemployed, including the registered disabled.

Mr. Fairgrieve

Steps are being taken to bring vacancies for enumerators to the attention of the registered unemployed through job centres and preference will be given to suitable unemployed applicants for these posts. The work of an enumerator requires a reasonable degree of physical fitness but disabled persons will be given every opportunity to apply for other census posts of a less physically demanding nature.
