§ Mr. Bidwellasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he intends to support a non-specialist vehicle to be used as a London licensed taxi.
79W
§ Mr. Raison:This is a matter for the licensing authority.
§ Mr. Bidwellasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he considers it satisfactory under paragraph 30 (1) of the London Cab Order 1934 that licences for cab drivers should continue to be supplied to such holders who are employed in other occupations.
§ Mr. Raison:Under section 30 (1) of the London Cab Order 1934, the licensing authority already has power to revoke or suspend a cab driver's licence if satisfied that the licensee is no longer a fit person to hold such a licence. It is entirely a matter for the authority to determine whether the undertaking by a licensee of other employment renders him unfit to hold a cab licence and we have no plans to amend this provision.
§ Mr. Bidwellasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will set up a London taxi trade board as suggested in the Maxwell Stamp report, 1970.
§ Mr. Raison:We have no plans to do so.
