§ Mr. D. E. Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish in the Official Report the latest figure for one-parent households in Wales; what is the increase projected by official statistics by (a) 1986 and (b) 1991; and if he will provide this information by county.
§ Mr. Wyn RobertsThe estimated number of households consisting solely of one-parent families is given below. The figures are derived from the Welsh housing and dwelling survey. There are also a number of one-parent families living in households which contain other families.
It is not possible to make projections for 1986 and 1991 because of the many factors involved, for example, the future trend in the breakdown of marriages
294WThe additional cost of erecting bilingual road signs on trunk roads in Wales is some £245,000 in 1980–81 (information about expenditure on county roads is not available). A wide range of further assistance such as expenditure on education, bilingual forms etc. is provided by Government Departments, local authorities and other public bodies which it would be difficult to itemise meaningfully.
