§ Mr. Stephen Rossasked the Lord Privy Seal what representations are being made to try and secure the early release of Danny de Souza, a British subject, sentenced to 30 years' imprisonment in Turkey on 7 May 1973.
§ Sir Ian GilmourMr. de Souza was convicted and sentenced on 29 December 1975 in accordance with Turkish law for a drugs offence. There are currently no grounds upon which we can base representations. I understand that there is provision in Turkish law for remission of sentence subject to good behaviour which could substantially reduce the length of Mr. de Souza's term of imprisonment.
