Mr. Shersby

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food why caramel manufactured in the United Kingdom is subject to the sugar regime whereas it is in practice almost entirely derived from glucose which in turn is made from maize; and if he will take steps to ensure that this is recognised by the EEC Commission with a view to caramel being transferred to the cereals regime as a matter of urgency.
