HC Deb 07 March 1980 vol 980 cc346-7W
Mr. Cryer

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will institute an inquiry into the near-miss by two Royal Air Force planes flying near the Dan-Air flight DA064 from Leeds-Bradford airport to Glasgow at around 6 pm on Monday 3 March; and if he will publish the results of the inquiry.

Mr. Pattie

All reports of air misses in United Kingdom airspace are investigated by the joint airmiss section of National Air Traffic Services and go before the joint airmiss working group, on which both civil and military interests are represented. Its conclusions and recommendations are widely distributed within the aviation community. Until the pilots have been positively traced and statements taken, I cannot say whether any RAF aircraft were involved, but I shall write to the hon. Member when the inquiries are completed.
